The 1MoreElephant Story
After hardly playing music at all for 10 years in order to focus on building Intelisys into what it is today, Rick Sheldon slowly rediscovered his love of recording and writing original music. During this period, Rick posed the following question to himself, “What would my musical goal be if I were not trying to earn a living making music?” Rick’s twin answers were to become the best possible rock guitar player he could be, and to write and record original music to the best of his ability, regardless of the audience.
Previously feeling the pressure of trying to make it in the music business, prior to his career at Intelisys, Rick no longer felt this pressure, which gave him freedom to explore everything he loved about music. When music became a hobby it became the greatest thing for him. Rock Out With Rick Sheldon
At three years old, Rick discovered his love of music when playing his grandmother’s piano. The feeling when touching the keys and hearing the resulting notes, which he calls the feedback loop, gave him a connection to the rewards of playing music.
At eight years old, Rick started guitar lessons with some of his friends, and immediately took to it. Rick was playing in bands by 14 and his mother allowed him to gig in the evenings at bars with bandmates that were in their 20s. He never imagined he would be anything other than a guitar player and a musician.
In 1994, Rick co-founded Intelisys, the country’s leading Technology Services Distributor with co-founder Rick Dellar. Rick and Rick founded Intelisys because they wanted to manage their own destiny, and that sense of freedom is encapsulated in the company’s tagline, “Independence. No limits.”
Focusing on his family and his business, he put music on the back burner for about 10 years. In 2007, Rick began writing new original songs for the 1MoreElephant album. He discovered the freedom of playing guitar without an end result—playing purely for the love of music.
Rick sings and plays most of the instruments on the album.
